What a biostimulator does

A biostimulator is an injectable that does not fill a line directly. It provokes the tissue to rebuild its own collagen over the following months. The two active biostimulators we carry are Sculptra (poly-L-lactic acid) and Radiesse (calcium hydroxylapatite).

Three ways it differs from filler

The effect appears slowly, over weeks to months, rather than immediately. It feels like your own tissue rather than a gel deposit, because it is your own new collagen. And results last longer: two years or more, versus nine to eighteen months for most HA filler.

Who it suits

Given as a series of two to four sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. Best for diffuse volume loss rather than one specific line or fold. Patients who want an immediate change usually pair a first session with a small HA filler placement.

The session

A series is typically two to four sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. Each session is thirty to sixty minutes. Sensation is a pinch per entry point plus a pressure feeling as the product is placed. Most patients tolerate the session without numbing.

Downtime and the massage protocol

Mild swelling for one to three days plus possible bruising. Sculptra specifically requires post-visit massage, five minutes, five times a day, for five days, to distribute the product evenly and reduce the small risk of nodule formation.

Results timeline

Full result appears over three to six months from the final session as collagen matures. Results hold two years or more. Patients wanting a visible change on day one usually pair the first session with a small amount of HA filler in a related area.
Frequently asked

Frequently asked questions

How is a biostimulator different from filler?Filler places volume directly and shows immediate results. A biostimulator triggers your own collagen to rebuild over the following months, so the change is gradual and lasts longer (two years or more). When will I see the result? The full result appears over three to six months from the final session as collagen matures. Patients who want a visible change on day one usually pair a biostimulator with a small amount of HA filler. Is it reversible? No. Once collagen is built, the technique is to wait rather than to dissolve. This is worth understanding before starting a biostimulator plan versus an HA filler plan.
