What Sculptra is

Sculptra is poly-L-lactic acid, a biostimulator injectable. PLLA has been used medically for decades in dissolvable sutures and orthopedic implants. Placed in the deep dermis, it triggers a controlled response that lays down new collagen around the particles as they dissolve.

It is a series, not a session

Most patients complete two to three sessions spaced four to six weeks apart, with the full result appearing over three to six months. Patients who expect an immediate change will be disappointed. Patients who understand the delayed response tend to be very satisfied.

Where it shines

Diffuse volume loss where the whole face looks flatter, temples that have hollowed, or a cheek that needs a subtle rebuild rather than an obvious lift. Results hold two years or more. It is not reversible: the technique is to wait it out rather than dissolve it.

The session

A course is typically two to three sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. Each session is thirty to sixty minutes. Sensation is a pinch per entry plus a pressure sensation as product is placed. Most patients do not need numbing.

The five, five, five protocol

Five minutes, five times a day, for five days. This distributes the product evenly and reduces the small risk of nodule formation. Missing it is one of the more common causes of a suboptimal Sculptra result. Your provider walks through the technique at the appointment.

Results and permanence

Full result appears over three to six months from the final session. Results hold two years or more. Sculptra is not reversible: once the collagen response is built, the answer is to wait rather than dissolve. Worth understanding before choosing it over HA filler.
